Hershey’s Kisses No.1

Hershey's Kisses No.1

by Mike Pitzer, 2022

This was my first attempt at rendering something so shiny. I loved how the color in the room was actually affecting the reflections in each Hershey’s Kiss. The only problem for me was that I kept eating the subject matter. As a kid, one of my favorite cookies had an entire Hershey’s Kiss melted right in the middle of it. When my Mom made these, it usually meant the Holidays were getting close.

I’d been putting off drawing a Kiss because I just didn’t feel my talents were quite there yet, but a friend of ours here in Fresno told one of his friends that he should really check out my art and website. That person was John Ostlund, owner of One Putt Broadcasting and K-Jewel Art Gallery in Downtown Fresno, the Central Valley’s premier art gallery. John and I talked and he liked my work so much, he offered me a one-man show which opens in December. I wanted something special, something I hadn’t drawn before, so this show was the perfect motivation to do a Hershey’s Kiss. I’m extremely happy with how it turned out.
