Jacks

Jacks

by Mike Pitzer, 2019

Onesies. Twosies. Threesies. Yep, if you know the count, you know I’m talking about Jacks. Boys had green plastic soldiers. Girls had Jacks. Either was considered lethal if left on the floor at night and Mom or Dad stepped on one. I think my sisters got these as stocking stuffers at Christmas while my brother and I would get a sack of marbles or a bag of soldiers. We were cleaning out closets and my wife Lynn found a box she’d bought several years ago for her and her friends to play with while having wine. Probably not as bad as drinking beer and throwing darts… but, because everything was still in pristine condition, I assume they never got around to playing Jacks. As for myself, I never threw darts but when I worked at Wells Rich Greene in Century City, we all drank Jack on the Rocks with a twists of lemon. Yummmmmmm.
